We are taking our first cruise in Oct, with 3 children, ages 13, 10 and 7. So many options! Can you use cash onboard, or is everything done through a "card"? Is it easier to add funds ahead of time to "prepay"? or are they just charged

    Ahoy Jessica!
Congratulations on embarking on a wondrous adventure on the high seas with Disney Cruise Line!  Your crew of five is going to have an absolute blast with all the fun Disney has planned for your cruise vacation!
Disney Cruise Line does operate on a cash-less system using the Key to the World card as your onboard charge card, room key and photo card!  The only cash I bring along is small bills for room service tips, porters at the cruise terminal, tipping Port Adventure guides, and souvenirs in the ports of call.  Your Key to the World card will be linked to the credit card of your choice and at the end of the sailing all your charges will be placed on this card unless you present cash, gift cards or traveler's checks instead.  Some Guests do set-up a cash system onboard, and it is an option if you chose to do so.  For 2-5 night sailings, Guests can charge up to $300 before having to add any money to their account for more charging privileges.  For 5-7 nights, $500 is the maximum amount that can be charged at a time.
If you decide to go with the credit card option, you won't need to prepay any funds before your sailing.  To help me with my cruise budget, I like to pick up Disney Gift Cards at my local grocery store during our planning period.  By the time my family is ready to set sail, we have a stack of cards that we apply to our onboard account by the end of our cruise.  This system works great for us!
I'm so glad you stopped by with your question, Jessica!  Please continue to visit the Moms Panel with all your cruise questions!
    Have a magical day!
