We are taking our first cruise this April on the Magic. My boys, 8 & 6 are beyond excited. I am excited and anxious. Does the Oceanear staff have experience with children with ASD's? I'm a bit nervous about leaving my 8 yo with inexperienced staff.

    Ahoy there Katherine!

I love to hear about your family's excitement about cruising on the majestic Disney Magic!  You have so much to be excited for and the wait is almost over!

I work with ASD students every day, and I completely understand your concern for your son's well-being while in the Oceaneer Club.  My best advice is to speak with the youth counselors about your son when you board the ship.  The counselors are trained to deal with children with various needs, but you know your son best.  Talk with the counselors about the variety of activities that are offered in the Club and figure out which ones might suit him the best.  Each night, your Stateroom Host/Hostess will leave a daily guide that describes everything you need to know about what's going on onboard.  This Personal Navigator will include a row dedicated to the Oceaneer Club.  Take a highlighter and mark the activities each day that your son wants to participate in.  A smoother transition might occur if he knows what to expect and goes in at the beginning of the activity.

I hope my answer helps ease some of your anxiety.  I have many wonderful memories from cruising on the Disney Magic, and I know you are looking forward to the same!

Please let me know if you have any more questions before the BIG day!

Have a fantastic day and Bon Voyage!
