We are taking Disney ground transportation from Orlando airport to Port Canaveral. Is there some place we can shop for water, beer and other beverages before we board the boat?

    Ahoy, Rachelle!

I bet you are getting excited for your cruise! Taking the Disney Cruise Line transportation from the Orlando Airport is a great way to get even more excited once you land. Unfortunately, the DCL buses do not make a stop anywhere that you could purchase any of the above mentioned beverages on the way to the port. Here are a few suggestions.

First of all, you could pack your beverages in your checked suitcases. This is NOT my first choice, but it is an option. But, you would have to claim your bags and take out all of the liquids to carry onto the Disney Cruise Line ship, since the DCL policy is that all of your beverages must be in your carry-on bags. My husband and I have, on occasion, packed a bottle of wine and then transferred it to a carry-on with no real issues.

Secondly, you might consider renting a car at the Orlando International Airport and driving yourselves to Port Canaveral. This frees you up to make any necessary stops along the way. I have found it is usually more economical to do this, and it is a very easy one-hour drive. Returning a car is easy, most rental car companies have a complimentary shuttle from their location to the cruise terminal.

Another suggestion would be to arrange for a private shuttle service from the airport to the cruise terminal. I know that they will absolutely make a stop for you on the way to the port. This might be a little pricier than DCL transportation, you might have to shop around.

My final suggestion is, kick back, enjoy the DCL bus to the port, and don't worry about getting beverages before you board. Depending on how much you plan to indulge on the cruise, it might not be worth the added stress. The water onboard is filtered and tastes great. You can bring refillable water bottles to fill and take on your Port Adventures. The drinks onboard aren't all that expensive, and there is a refillable beer mug available for purchase.

    Happy Cruising, Tracy V.
