We are taking a Disney Cruise out of Port Canaveral. I just learned that there will be a Rocket Launch at 11:00 AM. How will this rocket launch impact the roads for me to get to the Port? Is there a viewing area at Disney Port to see the Rocket Launch?

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel Melissa!

Only a couple weeks until your adventure begins.  I am so excited that you'll soon be cruising with Captain Mickey!  Confession time … I like to sail the high seas but I also dream about the stars!  I actually LOOK for rocket launch dates when I start planning my Disney Cruise Line vacations out of Port Canaveral.  I was excited to see an early February launch this year.  Our family is leaving next week so we will just miss this one, but I am so very excited to hear you will be able to witness this!

I haven't personally driven to Port Canaveral on a launch day, but after checking with some Disney Cruise Line experts I have been told that traffic can be heavy during these events.  Although Kennedy Space Center is a decent distance from the Port Canaveral cruise terminals, your travel time could be increased.  I would recommend checking traffic reports prior to leaving for the port and allow yourself plenty of time for your drive and check in.  With your planning and a launch time much earlier than your all aboard time this shouldn't be an issue.
Due to the proximity of Kennedy Space Center to the Port Canaveral cruise terminal, you should be able to see the rocket launch (if not the actual lift off, you can see the rocket as it exits the earth's atmosphere).  If you position yourself on the north side of the cruise terminal, you should be able to see look up to see the launch directly north -  just be sure to be safe and watch for traffic and other guests.  If you are lucky enough to board the ship before 11:00 AM, find a spot on the pool deck along the railing and again look north to view the spectacular show!  Grab a treat at Eye Scream on your way!

Bon voyage and enjoy the launch!  Angie
