Taking my daughter to Disney World - Orlando for her first birthday in March, any tips or essential to-do's to make her birthday as memorable as possible?

    Hello there,

Welcome to planDisney. Nikki thank you for dropping in with your question and trusting us to help with your daughter’s first birthday visit. Let's get this planning partying going!

Walt Disney World is a really special place for families. Memories begin as early as the parents decide to bring them to “The Most Magical Place on Earth.” Your daughter should consider herself lucky, because her first birthday will be a memorable one. First and foremost mouseketeers under the age of 3 are always Mickey’s personal guests, so you will not need to purchase a ticket for her, now that’s a great way to start your birthday. I would absolutely recommend Magic Kingdom Park as this is where the most magic lies for me. Cinderella Castle sitting so pretty at the end of Main Street USA, it truly is quintessential Disney. If you wait at the end of Main Street you will see the Main Street Vehicles. This is definitely the coolest way to get to Cinderella Castle, and it will honk its way down the street to warn pedestrians. Which I think is pretty entertaining. If you can make friends with the driver they will tell you loads of information about the vehicles and history behind them and even take your picture. If you are talking extremely special plans for your little lady and her first birthday celebration, I would actually recommend a Capture your Moment package. This gives you a personal session with the photographer in specific locations around Magic Kingdom. Every single one of these sessions I’ve seen have been amazing, and it will be a perfect keepsake for this special trip. Make sure you purchase Memory Maker with your tickets, while you cannot purchase individual pictures this will give you access to download all of the photos from your visit as well as the photo session.

If you plan on enjoying a meal at the Magic Kingdom or anywhere during your stay, you can order a cake for her birthday and have it delivered to select restaurants. The Mickey Mouse Celebration Cakes serve 4-6 people and are $39 plus tax, prices are subject to change. You can place the order for the cake when you are making your advanced dining reservation online or using the my Disney experience app.

Two very special activities that I think every person who comes to Disney is meeting the main cheese, the head honcho, the mouse who started it all, M-I-C-K-E-Y-M-O-U-S-E! This is usually a pretty special interaction but I always recommend saying hi to him from a distance at first, have her recognize him, then slowly get closer. Sometimes it's scary as he can be larger than life to our little ones. Another activity is an attraction that is a rite of passage for most guests. Dumbo the Flying Elephant. This attraction is an early memory in all three of my children’s minds and the tradition will carry on to the next generation if they decide to start their own families.

I hope this information is helpful and if you even use one of these tips for your special visit, I will be super lucky to have helped make your visit magical. Happy Birthday Princess!

    See ya real soon,
