Ghoulish Greetings to you Samantha, and welcome to planDisney!
As one of the resident planDisney costume connoisseurs and experts of all things Halloween at Disney Destinations worldwide, I'm so glad to be able to look into this one for you! I'm guessing that you're asking this question because you're about to attend
Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and not just asking out of personal curiosity for an ordinary fake mustache day out at the Walt Disney World Resort Theme Parks. (In my mind I'm envisioning something that looks like a novelty set of glasses with everything attached like a cartoonish disguise, but you likely have something great planned!)
I managed to confer with the friendly Cast Members at Guest Relations who not only pointed out the
Official Costume Guidelines that I'm sure you're aware of, but did want to reiterate that since a big part of these rules and policies involve guest safety, this may count as a loose item if you intend on enjoying certain rides or attractions and wearing sunglasses after dark during a nighttime event could limit the visibility of trip hazards or other guests in your way. That said, since we can't quite see the costume accessory itself to give you a definitive answer here, this may end up being at the discretion of the security and screening Cast Members at the entrance to the event who are tasked with identifying costume pieces that they may consider to be against policy. You might find that this definitely leaves itself up to interpretation as to what truly crosses the threshold of being considered a mask, as I've definitely seen my share of families dressed up as The Incredibles who are known for wearing "masks" around their eyes.
Whenever I'm designing and pulling together costume elements for these special events and have to ask myself whether it would be a risk to get something past the costume policy, I like to have a Plan B in place just to avoid any situations where I'd be using up any of that precious, limited event time. Our team has put together a set of
Tips and Tricks for BOO-tiful Halloween Costumes along with our recent
planDisney Pocket Guide to Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom Park, so be sure to check those out before your upcoming visit. Whatever you end up wearing this month, I hope you take the time to take advantage of the
exclusive Disney PhotoPass photo opportunities and have a frightfully fun time - and don't hesitate to
come back here for any other answers or advice before you go!
Wishing you all the best on your costumed quest!
