Any suggestions on how to get kids to stop and reapply sunscreen often?

    Ahoy, Cindy!

Getting sunburn on a Disney Cruise (or really anywhere) is no fun for anyone. I have tried over the years to teach my daughters the importance of using sunscreen. When we are on a cruise, and we are all in the room in the morning getting ready, sunscreen is one of the steps in getting dressed. I am kind of a stickler about it.

Then, if we are enjoying a day at sea, I ask that my girls meet up with us around lunchtime to check in. At that point, I hand them the bottle of lotion to reapply. Do they do a thorough job? Probably not, but its the effort, right?

If they are going off on their own for the afternoon, I remind them of where I will be, with the sunscreen, should they want to stop by. I also encourage rash guard shirts when we are going to be swimming at a beach for the day. This ensures that at least the shoulders won't be burnt. One of our biggest sunburn issues is lips, so I send an SPF lip balm with the girls wherever they go.

On the ship, there are so many fun family activities throughout the day, you could easily plan to be inside for parts of the highest sun times as well. If you have given birth to mermaids and fish who won't want to leave the pools, scheduling a break is definitely a must.

Hoping you have a sunburn-free cruise! Please come back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel with more questions about cruising as your voyage gets closer.

    Happy Cruising, Tracy V.
