Where would you suggest to eat dinner before the Fantasmic show? We will have our 9 year old grandson with us.

There are two restaurants at Disney's Hollywood Studios that are particularly fun for grandparents and grandchildren to share together: the Sci-Fi Dine-In and the 50s Prime Time Cafe. These both have retro themes with a fun twist. Let me explain:

    - The Sci-Fi Dine-In has tables in the shape of cars. All the cars face a giant movie screen, just like an old-time drive-in movie. While you eat, you'll watch short clips from campy science fiction movies from the 1950s and 60s, between the sci-fi clips you see drive-in related cartoons. (Dancing hot dogs anyone?) I ate at the Sci-Fi with both my parents and my children last year. My folks had a great time strolling down memory lane and explaining some of the clips, while my kids had a great time laughing at the goofy robots on the screen.

    - The 50s Prime Time Diner is themed like your home kitchen, circa the 1950s. There are dinette sets and cookie jars and lots of yummy American comfort food (think meatloaf, mac 'n cheese, and fried chicken). But the best part is the servers. All the waitstaff takes the role of your relatives. One might be Mom, one might be your annoying brother ... you get the idea. One one recent visit, we had a "Mom" server. She kept scolding my husband for putting his elbows on the table. She was playing with her and eventually the waitress made my hubby stand in the corner for disobeying her. It was such a riot my kids are still laughing about it.

Either one of these spots would be a great place to fill up while you're waiting for Fantasmic. Hope you enjoy!
