can you substitute your lunch dessert for another snack with the free dining plan?

    Hi Amber!

Thanks for stopping by the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your question! It sounds like you will be traveling at one the best times of year, the Free Dining Promotion. I love that the Disney Dining Plan allows a family to relax and know that everything, including meals, is taken care of. You’ll be walking down Main Street U.S.A. enjoying a Mickey Bar with just a simple touch of your Magic Band!

This summer, some changes were made to how Guests may use their Disney Dining Plan entitlements. These changes were designed to offer more flexibility and value to Guests. Currently, when using a quick service entitlement for a meal, you may substitute the dessert portion of your meal for an alternate snack item, as long as it is done in the same transaction as the rest of the quick service meal. This means that when you order your entree and beverage, you must order the alternate snack at the same time. You cannot “save” the dessert portion as a snack credit to be redeemed at an alternate location or time later in the day. This is a great option for folks who are not big dessert eaters, who would prefer a healthier option, or simply don’t have enough room for dessert and would prefer an item to take with them and enjoy later.

If you end up with extra quick service entitlements, you may also like to know that you can exchange the entire meal for three snack entitlements. Again, this must be done in the same transaction, but this is a great way to use up leftover credits. We like to use ours to stock up on Mickey Krispie Treats to bring home! I hope this helps you with your planning, Amber. Let us know what other questions we can help you with.

I hope you and your family have an unforgettable and delicious Walt Disney World vacation!
