Can I substitute the dessert/drink for an appetizer or extra side at a table service on the DDP? Example: Sci-Fi dining, with being able to upgrade drinks now to shakes/alcoholic shakes, I really don't need a dessert too. Thanks!

Hi Trinity!  Thank you for bringing your question to the Disney Parks Moms Panel.

I'm glad to hear you have a meal planned at the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant.  This dining location offers one of the most unique dining experiences in all of Walt Disney World Resort!

A Table-Service meal on the Disney Dining Plan includes an entree, a beverage, and a dessert.  Guests on the Dining Plan may select a specialty beverage, such as a milkshake, as you mention.  I agree that both a milkshake and a dessert like the fantastic Hot Fudge Sundae at the Sci-Fi Dine In Theater Restaurant might be a little too much wonderfulness all at once.  Substitutions for dessert are possible, but are up to the discretion of each individual dining location.  Ask your server what your options are.  You might be offered the option to order soup or a side dish in lieu of dessert.

I hope that helps!  Please stop by the Moms Panel again with any additional questions you may have.  Enjoy your stay!
