We are staying at WL and have a 5:00 reservation for Hoop Dee Doo. We have also thought about going to the campfire at Ft. Wilderness. What are our transportation options? I am wondering how crowded the boat will be when it picks up at WL. Can we drive?

    Hi Sherri!

From the Wilderness Lodge, it is very easy to travel to Ft. Wilderness. There are two main options:
Boat transportation or a walking path.

My recommendation is to use the boat ferry which travels a route between the Lodge, Ft. Wilderness and the Contemporary. The boat is travels the circle on about a 15 to 20 minute schedule, and should be the easiest and quickest way to travel to the Fort. In my experience, the boat does not usually fill to capacity. Occasionally this will happen when the park is closing, or fireworks have just ended. It is rare for it to fill up in mid-day. In your planning, I would plan on about 1/2 hour for the boat trip, but that should give you plenty of extra time in case of a worst-case scenario.

The walking path runs from the Wilderness Lodge (past the marina area) over to Ft. Wilderness. Its about a 15 minute walk or so to reach the Fort.

If you prefer, you can use your own car to drive to Fort Wilderness, but honestly, this may take just as long as the boat ride or walk once you figure in parking time, etc.

    Hope this helps!
