Staying at Villas Wilderness Lodge Feb 23-27 & want to get to EP and MK when they open at 8am. Are we better off taking bus or boat for MK and what time to leave the room to make it to the gates by 8am at each park? Is bus quicker than boat for MK? Tha

    Hi Beth!

You must be getting excited that your vacation to the Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge is right around the corner! One of the things I love about a Walt Disney World Resort vacation is the complimentary transportation throughout the resort. Since at home I feel like a bus driver, shuttling kids all over town in my minivan, I enjoy relaxing and leaving the driving to Disney’s fantastic Cast Members.

I think your plan of arriving early to the parks is a great idea. This is how we vacation as well, and we get a lot accomplished in those first few hours. From Disney’s Wilderness Lodge to the Magic Kingdom, I think your overall transportation time via boat or bus is probably very similar. Our family prefers to take the boat, but depending on weather or other factors we do sometimes take the bus.

As a general rule, to get to the Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom or Hollywood Studios, I always leave our family approximately 1 hour of time to get from our room to the park. This allows ample time for walking to either the boat dock or bus stop, waiting for the transportation, actual travel time to the park, and time to get through bag check and the gate. For Epcot, I usually add an extra 5 to 10 minutes because the walk from the bus stop is bit longer, and there are fewer bag check stations.  If I need to be on time for an Advance Dining Reservation, I add an additional 5-10 minutes to walk from the gate to the restaurant, as I really dislike being late for dinner!

I hope this information helps you on your upcoming trip to the Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, and that your entire family has a truly magical vacation!

    Happy Planning!
