We will be staying on site, but this trip we will be driving down, not flying. If driving to parks instead of using the bus, is parking available close to the parks entrance, or is it first come, first serve. Thanks for all your help and useful info.

There is TONS of parking at the Disney theme parks. Guests of the Disney resorts can park their cars for free at the Disney parks.

Where you end up getting to park in the lot is very dependent on what time you arrive at the park. If you're there early, before the park opens, then you'll likely get a spot near the entrance. If you come in late afternoon, you'll have to park a bit further afield. However, you shouldn't worry about having to walk too much. There are trams that circle the parking lots that will drive guests to the park entrance if they are parked at in a far-away lot.

You don't say when you're visiting Walt Disney World. I should warn you that while the parking lots are HUGE, they do have capacity limits. If you are visiting WDW during the 4th of July or Christmas week there is a small possibility that the lots could fill completely. In this case, you should choose to use Disney transportation to get to the parks.
