Hi Susan,
Thanks for joining us here at the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your question. My mom often uses an
ECV, Electric Conveyance Vehicle, when we travel together to Walt Disney World Resort. As anyone with a step tracker can attest, there is quite a bit of ground covered in a day at the fabulous theme parks. For a family member with limited mobility, these zippy ECVs can make the day much more enjoyable.
Please assure your mother that driving the EVC up the bus ramp is not as difficult at she might expect. The bus drivers are the best! They will direct her at each step and have her piloting her new ride in no time. Of course, it doesn't hurt to bring along a healthy sense of humor for the learning curve.
We generally rent from a Disney Featured Provider. This is more convenient for visits to Disney's BoardWalk Entertainment District, Disney Springs or even around some of our favorite Walt Disney World Resort hotels. On a day when we chose to avail ourselves of the Park Hopper Option, not needing to stop to check-in or check-out our ECV makes the transition seamless.
There are some Resort hotel options that will allow your mother to reduce her dependence on bus transportation. ECVs can roll easily on the Monorails; FriendShip boats that run between Disney's Hollywood Studios and Epcot with stops at Disney's BoardWalk Resort, Disney's Beach Club Resort, Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotel and Walt Disney World Swan Hotel; DVC Water Taxi boats between Disney's Old Key West Resort, Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa, and Disney Springs; Sassagoula Water Taxi with stops at Disney Springs, Disney's Port Orleans French Quarter and Riverside Resorts and the Motor Cruiser boats between Magic Kingdom Park and Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground.
Wishing you many magical memories.
Sally
