We are staying at Port Orleans on New Year's Eve and have a 6 year old. We would like to watch the fireworks from somewhere close by the resort instead of in the park. Any suggestions? Thanks

    Hi Brenda,

What a coincidence, we will be bringing in the New Year at Disney World's Port Orleans too. I can understand wanting to avoid some of the park crowds on this busy evening. Unfortunately you will not be able to view Magic Kingdom's Wishes, nor Epcot's Illuminations from your resort.

The best option for viewing Illuminations is to head over to the Boardwalk resort. While here, you could enjoy some free nighttime entertainment with magicians, jugglers and comedians as well as a bite to eat or even rent a bike for a trip around the lake. You will be able to see portions of Illuminations from the bridge between the Boardwalk and Beach Club resort.

The options for Wishes include the Polynesian, Contemporary  or Grand Floridian resorts. The California Grill at Contemporary resort offers the most amazing view from select tables or the attached observation deck. There are also beautiful views from Narcoossee's at the Grand Floridian resort. All three of these resorts will also provide viewing locations from the beaches on their property. These locations are provided for resort guests however as a guest at another Disney resort, we have been able to view from these spots too.

Another great idea would be to enjoy a carriage ride at Fort Wilderness Campgrounds. You can pre-book a spot by calling 407-WDW-PLAY. If you are able to obtain a spot on the fireworks carriage, you will have a chance to view some of the great holiday decorations throughout the campgrounds, which includes a stop on the beach to enjoy the fireworks.

Hope one of these works for you! Enjoy!!
