Hi we are staying at the PO riverside in a royal room in August. Is there a big difference between the river view and garden view rooms? We really need a room that connects and it seems like most of the river rooms do, I know this can't be guarenteed. Than

    Hi Danielle,

Thanks for stopping by the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your question!  My family has stayed at Disney's Port Orleans Resort - Riverside many times and has always loved it.  In terms of the rooms themselves and amenities included, there really are no differences between the River View and Garden View options.  The main differences you will find are the view you'll have from your room and the proximity to the restaurants, lobby and transportation at the resort.

With a River View room, you'll have a great view of the Sassagoula River, which flows right through the grounds.  Looking at the resort map, those rooms can be found in the Alligator Bayou buildings 14, 27 and 28 and all of the Magnolia Bend buildings.  While River View rooms don't guarantee you'll be close to the main buildings, all are fairly conveniently-located.  Garden View rooms offer nice views of the gardens and grounds, but you won't be facing a parking lot.  Those rooms are scattered throughout the resort, so you could be near or not-so-near to the main buildings.  Connecting rooms are available in both the River View and Garden View rooms.

My best recommendation is to note the request for connecting rooms when you make your reservation, then to confirm that again at check-in.  Connecting rooms, which have an internal, lockable room between then, are different than adjacent rooms, which are simply next door to each other.  Connecting room requests aren't guaranteed unless there's an adult traveling with dependent children, so if that's the case with your group, also be sure to not that on your reservation.

One unofficial site that has lots of helpful information about Riverside is www.portorleans.org, so you might check that out as you make your plans.

Wishing you a pixie-dusted vacation!  Please let us know if you have any other questions along the way.
