Hi! Staying off property for 1st Disney visit. A friend reports the view of the Castle from the monorail is amazing. Can you park at a resort and take the monorail if not staying there or is a special pass required?? Thanks for all the great advice!

Anyone can ride the monorail with no special pass required. However, I'm not sure I'd park at a resort to do this.

The parking lot for the Magic Kingdom is actually a fair distance from the park itself. Guests are required to take Disney transportation from the parking lot (Transportation and Ticket Center) to the park. You can do this via either boat or monorail. So, you can get to ride the monorail just by going about your regular business. If you enjoy the trip, you are welcome to stay on the monorail and make the loop several times just for fun. Any guest may also take the monorail from the Magic Kingdom to Epcot and back.

Also, you may want to click on the link at the right of this page that says Videos for Moms. There's a clip in there about transportation which shows me riding in the front car of the monorail. Any guest can do this if they ask and are patient about waiting for an available car. That gives you a really great view.

Guests can park at the resorts for a few hours for dining or shopping. There will be a guard at the resort entrance gate. Explain to him or her what you will be doing at the resort and he/she will give you a temporary parking pass and direct you where to park your car.
