Hi Jessica, and welcome back to planDisney. I love Animal Kingdom Lodge’s relaxing vibes, delicious food, impressive artwork, and, of course, the incredible views of the animals!
First, let’s talk about where you can see the savannas in the evening. I’ve sometimes been able to spot a few animals at night from the resort’s overlooks. The night vision goggles they use on
Starlight Safari do help your eyes see farther and more clearly, but you may be able to try them without going on the tour. In the past, Cast Members were often stationed at one of the overlooks with night vision goggles that guests could use to look at the animals. I haven’t seen this activity listed on the resort recreation guide recently, but I’d suggest checking with the front desk to see if it’s still offered.
I’d also recommend checking the
Starlight Safari reservations in the days leading up to your trip. People are always changing their plans, and you might be able to snag a cancellation. I’ve had the most luck in the week before my trip, and especially the day or two before.
I’ve stayed in the Standard View Villas (now called
Resort View Villas) many times since they're more affordable. But, even if your room doesn’t have a savanna view, there are plenty of places to see animals throughout the resort. When you’re walking to your room, there are windows in the hallways where you can spot animals during the day. It’s harder at night because of the glare on the glass.
There are also two ground-level overlooks at
Kidani that give you an up-close look at the animals. Sunset Savanna Overlook is down the stairs from the lobby, and Pemba Savanna Overlook is near the
Maji Pool Bar. The latter is also where you can roast complimentary marshmallows each night! Sometimes you can find Cast Members at these overlooks who can tell you more about the animals.
Finally, my two favorite places to look for animals are the balcony off the lobby, where you can relax on the rocking chairs overlooking the savanna, and the table-service restaurant, Sanaa, which has windows looking out into the savanna.
Sanaa is open for quick-service breakfast and has some really unique and tasty options. I love to order the Short Rib Hash and grab a table by the window. Eating with a view of the animals is the perfect start to the morning!
I’m wishing you a magical stay at Kidani this summer! If you have any other questions, you’re always welcome at planDisney.
