We are staying at the Fort Wilderness cabins for a trip this February. For transportation around WDW, it looks like we should take the water transport to the Contemporary or Magic Kingdom and catch the monorail . Is this as efficient as it sounds?

The transportation you would choose depends on where you are going. Getting to the Magic Kingdom is quite easy. There are regular boats that leave directly from Fort Wilderness to the Magic Kingdom. This is quick and easy.

If you are going the other parks you have a few options. First, there are direct buses from Fort Wilderness to Epcot, the Animal Kingdom, Disney's Hollywood Studios, the water parks, and Downtown Disney. You could also get to all of these places by taking that boat to the Magic Kingdom and then transferring to a bus from there or, in the case of Epcot, taking the monorail to the Ticket and Transportation Center and switching to the Epcot monorail.

Your choice of either taking the direct bus or taking the boat and making the transfer will be greatly impacted by your campsite location and whether you are located nearer to the boat dock or the bus stop. Believe it or not, none of this is as complicated as it sounds. You'll get the hang of it in no time.
