We are staying at Disney's Polynesian Resort (Deluxe Studio-DVC) and are traveling with a two year old and need a bed rail, are they provided? Thank you.

Aloha, Kaylyn! Thank you for coming to planDisney with your question about your upcoming visit to the Walt Disney World Resort and stay at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows. We just got back from a stay at the Polynesian ourselves, and enjoyed the tropical ambiance, being able to watch Happily Ever After from the beach overlooking Seven Seas Lagoon, monorail access to Magic Kingdom, and the Lava Pool. It was a great trip, and I am looking forward to visiting again, especially when the new Disney Vacation Club rooms become available!

You will be happy to know that Disney Vacation Club Deluxe Studios come with amenities like full baths separated into two areas (one with shower and sink, and one with toilet, sink, and tub/shower), a kitchenette with paper products, a small refrigerator, and a portable crib! If your child prefers to sleep in the queen bed, queen pull-down bed, or single pull-down bed, complimentary bed rails can be requested, but are available on a first-come, first-served basis. I would recommend calling the Disney Resort Hotel Reservation number found under the Reservations and Tickets section to ask a friendly Cast Member to note the request on your reservation, and then follow up with your request when checking in.

My recommendation would be to plan on your child sleeping in the pull-down single bed located under the TV as it is low to the ground and would only require one bed rail, if available. In the situation where a bed rail is not available, something we have done on prior visits is, use the extra bedding found in the closet, roll it into the shape of a pool noodle, and tuck it under the fitted sheet to create a barrier preventing our child from rolling out of bed. We just did this with our four-year-old and it worked great and didn’t need to be removed with putting the bed back into the cabinet each morning to free up the floor space.

I hope this answers your question, Kaylyn, and I hope you enjoy your upcoming visit to Disney World and the Polynesian. While you're there, if you find yourself eating at Kona Café, I highly recommend the Tonga Toast, a banana-stuffed sourdough French Toast breakfast dish that was amazing. And I can’t forget to remind you that Pineapple Lanai is one of the few places outside of the parks where you can enjoy a delicious DOLE WHIP!
