Characters and family at Stormalong Bay

    We are staying at Disney’s Beach Club. Can my 5 year old and 3 year old grandchildren use their own arm floaties at Storm a long bay or are they required to use resort PFF?

    Hello Jennifer!

    Welcome to planDisney! Disney's Beach Club Resort is currently in the lead as one of my favorite Resorts on Walt Disney World property.  It has a great ambiance and one of the best pools on Disney property. My little ones are not great swimmers and when they were younger I was very diligent about making sure they used a flotation device in the pool. 

    Stormalong Bay is wonderful in that it has shallower zero-entry pool areas with a sandy bottom. I have such cherished memories of my kids playing in the sand making sand castles. However, did you know that the lovely lazy river can get up to 8 feet deep? That may be a bit scary with a 5 and 3-year-old. Swimming devices that are permitted at Disney Resorts include floatation devices that are secured to the swimmer such as lifejackets. Flotation devices not secured to the swimmer such as water wings/arm floaties or swim rings are ok to use but only if an adult is nearby (within arm's reach) of the person using the device. My favorite devices to use with my kids are those that are US Coast Guard Type II or Type III as they are great for regular boating adventures too and not super bulky. It is mentioned that there is a 10/20 rule that must be followed which means that the lifeguard's goal is to recognize a water emergency within 10 seconds and then be able to rescue the person in 20 seconds. If the child or person in the water is in a device that makes it hard to see the child or makes it hard for them to secure them for rescue and then provide life-saving measures it will not be allowed. The arm floaties you want to use could be fine if you stay within arm's reach but in the end, it is at the discretion of the lifeguard on duty. Don't fret, as there are always complimentary life vests available right near the pool in various sizes. At Stormalong Bay there are also round inflatable tubes to use on the lazy river but those get taken very quickly. Make sure to get one when you see if you plan to float along the lazy river.  

    While enjoying Stormalong Bay there are quick food options at the to-go window at Beaches & Cream Soda Shop and Hurricane Hanna's Waterside Bar and Grill. The chicken strips at Hurricane Hanna's Waterside Bar and Grill are especially delicious and I loved the Piña CoLAVA.
