Donna,
Thanks for asking your question to planDisney!
You will love staying at the
Campsites at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort! There is so much to do, and it brings more "relaxation" to the "rest and relaxation" vacation formula that we all enjoy!
The short answers to your questions are first that, no, there is no longer a walking trail between Fort Wilderness and
Disney's Wilderness Lodge. Second, yes, there is still a
boat loop that connects both the Wilderness Lodge, the marina at Fort Wilderness, and the
Magic Kingdom on a single route.
The walking trail, which was a lovely walk between the two resort areas, is permanently gone. With some potential future resort hotel developments announced for that middle area, the path had to be removed.
However, while I did enjoy that stroll, I have always loved the boat transportation around Walt Disney World. Whether it is taking a boat from the Port Orleans resorts to Disney Springs, or from EPCOT to Disney's Hollywood Studios, or even from both
Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and
Disney's Polynesian Village Resort over to the Magic Kingdom, they all offer scenic, relaxing, and convenient transportation from Point A to Point B!
BONUS TIP #1While you stay at Fort Wilderness, make sure you visit the
Settlement Trading Post, near the marina. This resort store has some fun souvenirs, including resort-specific shirts.
BONUS TIP #2Another great stop is to visit the newly updated
Tri-Circle-D Ranch at Fort Wilderness. It is a beautiful set of stables, and if the timing is right you could catch a
pony ride!
