We are staying at Bay Lake Towers and have a 5:00 dinner at Akershus in Epcot. How long would you allot to get from the hotel to dinner? I know that it could take some time to get from Monorail to the restaurant. Would a cab be any easier and quicker?

    Hello Ilana!

Disney’s Bay Lake Tower is a wonderful choice, especially because of it’s amazing location. You’ll be only steps away from Magic Kingdom, and getting to Epcot is actually quite easy. I can’t deny that a taxi will almost always be the quickest way to get from place to place, but I don’t think this particular transportation situation is too complex. If it were my family, I would simply take Disney’s complimentary transpiration and save the taxi money for more souvenirs.

From Disney’s Contemporary Resort, hop the Monorail to the first stop which is the Transportation and Ticket Center. There you’ll transfer to the Epcot Monorail, which lets you off right by the entrance to Epcot! As an added bonus, the Monorail actually takes you through the park. This is my favorite Monorail ride as you get an ariel view of Epcot! Once you have arrived at Epcot, there is a bit of a walk from the front entrance to Akershus Royal Banquet Hall. Leave yourself 15 to 20 minutes for this walk. This will be the same whether you take a taxi or the Monorail, so it shouldn’t be a deciding factor. I like to think I am walking off my Rice Dream, which is one of the wonderful desserts served at dinner!

If your dinner reservation is at 5 P.M., I would plan on leaving your room just a little before 4 P.M. to catch the Monorail. If you will be taking a taxi, I would plan to head down to the valet at just a little after 4 P.M., since you’ll need to allow time for a taxi to arrive. Again, in this specific situation, I personally would use the Monorail. Let me know if you have any additional questions, Ilana. I love to help my fellow Guests plan their magical vacations!
