Staying at AKL for two nights; then off to Abaco, Bahamas. We will be traveling with a cooler of frozen meat for our stay in Abaco. Is AKL able to store our cooler in a freezer during our stay?

    Hi Earl,

It sounds like you have an exciting vacation coming up!

I just spoke to a cast member at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. They do have a freezer in the Bell Services area that they can use to store food for guests. However, this is generally intended for use by the local grocery delivery services such as GardenGrocer.com to store frozen goods for a few hours, not for several days. You could certainly ask if they would store a cooler at Bell Services and might be successful if you were super polite (and perhaps offered a nice tip), but this would certainly not be the norm. The restaurants would not be able to store your food in their freezer due to legal restrictions.

I'm not sure what type of room you're staying in, but if you're in a 1, 2, or 3 bedroom villa at either Kidani Village or Jambo House, then you will have a refrigerator in your room with a regular full-sized freezer. You could store your items there for as long as needed.

There are ice machines located at all the Disney resorts. You'd be welcome to use this to keep your meat cold, restocking your supply as needed. After doing some research, I learned that many Publix supermarkets (one of the larger chains in the Orlando area) sell dry ice. If you have access to a vehicle, you could purchase some and use this in your cooler.

I'm not sure how you're getting to the Bahamas, but there are many airline and cruise line regulations about traveling with qualities of ice and dry ice. You'll want to check with your carrier to be sure that your meat transportation method is permitted.

Good luck with your planning. Please let us know what else we can do to help.
