Staying at AKL in Sept. with kids 5,8. Now concerned about distance to MK as I think that's the park we'll spend the most time. Plan to go back to resort for naps/swim in afternoons. Should I change reservations and stay at Wilderness Lodge instead?

    Hi Tracy,

I love both of these resorts and both have their advantages.

If you chose the Animal Kingdom Lodge for the safari view or the bunkbeds, it may be worth you staying at this resort.  The trip to the Magic Kingdom is about 25 minutes on the motorcoach.  This resort also has a very unique zero entry pool which resembles a river in Africa so do not be alarmed that the water is a muddy brown-it is perfectly fine to swim in!  This resort also offers the ability to go on "safari" at night with night vision goggles so check with the front desks for times.

The Wilderness Lodge is a completely different experience.  You have the feel of the Northwest Territory and I am never sure I am in Florida when I visit here.  Its pool starts in the main building and ends at a geyser.  The Whispering Canyons Cafe is one of my favorite restaurants!  You can visit the Magic Kingdom via boats that leave from the back of the resort and take approximately 10 minutes.  This makes it easy to return midday for a nap or swimming.

    Enjoy the magic of Disney!
