We are staying at AKL at the end of October. I want to book a reservation for Sanaa, but cannot tolerate anything spicy. I heard that butter chicken is mild, but I only see that offered on the children's menu. Suggestions? Should we go to Jiko instead?

Jambo, Lisa, and thanks for going on safari with planDisney! You'll love every second of your stay at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, and October is my favorite time of year to visit Walt Disney World Resort. Maybe I'll tag along as your safari guide. Let's talk about dining options at this resort because, let's face it - Food is my favorite!

I recently had a fabulous dining experience at Sanaa! The menu is a bit adventurous, which suits the wild African theme. However, I feel confident the staff will work with you to customize any dish that calls your name. My family eats plant-based, so we've had fabulous luck speaking to chefs who gladly work with us. For example, sauces can be changed or left off, and selections on the kid's menu can sometimes be made into adult-sized portions.

The menu at Jiko—The Cooking Place looks similar, so my advice is the same. Let your server know if you have any health concerns related to spicy food, and they can best advise you. The Jiko Salad looks delicious! You've inspired me to give it a try.

Since you're a guest of Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, I suggest stopping by Sanaa or Jiko early in your visit to discuss your dining preferences. You can typically cancel dining experiences up to two hours before your reservation, so you have some flexibility. I recommend keeping your Sanaa reservation until you chat with the staff. You can also call the Dining line at (407) WDW-DINE; they might offer suggestions to soothe the savage appetite!

I hope I've eased your mind about dining on your upcoming adventure. My final tip is to look for the famous Zebra Domes at this resort. On my last visit, I picked up this sweet treat in the refrigerated case at The Mara. Talk about savage!

Thanks again for stopping by planDisney, Lisa. Asante sana!

    Magic awaits,
    Elaine
