We have stayed at the value resorts in the past and purchased the drink cups there that are refillable. I heard (maybe a rumor) that if we bring those cups back, we can use them again. True? What about the cups that can be purchased at TL and BB?

The refillable mugs at Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach have bar codes on them that are unique for the day of purchase. In order to get more soda/lemonade, you have to scan the mug to activate the machine. So, the only way to get refills would be to buy a new mug or bar code sticker.

At the resorts, there is no such bar coding system. The soda machines are just on all the time. However, the beverage areas do have signs posted that indicate that the refillable mugs are for use only at the resort of purchase, during the visit in which they were purchased. So, following the rules, you cannot use last year's mug for this year's vacation. This is a rule that I have heard many people do break, but that is not in accordance with Disney's policy.
