We have stayed at POFQ and AKL in the past, but are considering a family suite at AOA for our January trip to WDW. Our kids will be 12, 9, & 4. How does AOA compare to the other resorts we have stayed at? The extra space sounds nice for a family of

    Hi, Jen!

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel. My family has stayed at all three of these resorts and we enjoy each of them for different reasons. Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge is a Deluxe category resort and, in my opinion, features some of the best dining at Walt Disney World! Also, there are a number of excellent cultural and educational activities available daily, including fun activities for kids (African face painting and drumming, medallion rubbing, animal stamping, night vision animal savanna viewing and evening campfires) as well as for adults (culinary tours, cultural tours and wine tastings). We enjoy the calm, tranquil environment of this resort and love relaxing in the beautiful Uzima Pool.

Disney's Port Orleans - French Quarter is a beautiful Moderate resort with a colorful New Orleans theme. The food court is quite good (did I hear someone say "beignets"?!) and the grounds are lovely. The downside is that there is no table-service restaurant, so you have to walk over to Boatwright's at Port Orleans - Riverside, though it's a pleasant stroll. My daughter loves the sea serpent waterslide at Doubloon Lagoon pool, but the pool itself is on the small side. There are also many recreational opportunities from horse-drawn carriage rides to surrey bike, pedal boat and kayak rentals.

Disney's Art of Animation is a Value resort with a really fun and whimsical atmosphere that really appeals to younger kids. The big draw here is the incredibly themed Big Big Pool and the extra space (including a separate master bedroom, kitchenette and two bathrooms) afforded by the Family Suites. There really isn't much in the way of recreation beyond the pools (which do not feature waterslides). But I do recommend trying out Art of Animation to experience the unique pools, outstanding Landscape of Flavors food court and larger-than-life theming.
