My son has been sick for over a yr now. We have an appt with our Endo Just shy of a month of our cruise. My 10yr old might have to start insulin at that point. My TA said she would be sending me a form. Do I fill it out just incase, or wait until we know?

Welcome aboard, Sandra! It sounds like your family has had a rough year. This cruise is going to be just the escape you all need, as you'll get to relax and enjoy some time away from the rest of the world while you sail the high seas with Mickey! I would highly suggest that you fill out the medical form just to be safe. This will ensure that your stateroom has the proper refrigerator for insulin storage as well as a sharps box. If you later find that you won't need this, just contact Disney Cruise Line (or your travel agent) to let them know of the change. Better to plan on it just in case, right?

My friend's 7-year old daughter has been on insulin for a couple years now and I asked for her best tips for traveling with a diabetic little one. She suggested that you bring double or even triple the amount of medication your son will need in case there is a problem in a port where you might not be able to easily access a pharmacy. She also suggested having extra snacks and fast-acting carbs, sugar or candy on hand, especially for embarkation day when you might wait in the cruise terminal for a bit before you board. Finally, a great tip of hers was to pack your own small soft-sided cooler to keep the insulin cold if you'll be away from your stateroom with your son for an extended period, such as on a Port Adventure.

I hope this information helps you to plan your trip, Sandra. Feel free to stop back here and ask me anything else that might come up before you set sail!
