Wow, Deborah! First of all, congratulations to your son on this exceptional feat! Attaining the rank of Eagle Scout requires dedication to community service and leadership- ideals that Walt Disney himself upheld. In fact, Walt was a Boy Scout and received the Silver Buffalo Award as an adult. His medal is on display at the Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco.
With the hustle and bustle at Magic Kingdom Park, many Guests don't realize that there is a daily
Flag Retreat ceremony at 5:00 PM in the town square on Main Street, U.S.A. This 15-minute patriotic ceremony will tug on your heartstrings as the American flag is lowered while the Philharmonic plays the “Star Spangled Banner.” Typically veterans are selected by Walt Disney World each day to take part in the ceremony, but the Cast Member I spoke to on the phone said that they love to honor anyone who serves our country, including Eagle Scouts. You'll want to get the Park first thing in the morning, and head to
Guest Relations in the City Hall building as soon as the Park opens. Although there is never a guarantee of being chosen, your son will increase his odds of being selected if he wears his Boy Scout uniform. Also, don't forget to pick up an "I'm Celebrating" badge while you're there.
For a special dinnertime celebration for your son, consider having a
custom-designed cake delivered to a table-service restaurant at Walt Disney World Resort. To order, call the Cake Hotline at (407) 827-2253 at least 72 hours in advance of your restaurant reservation.
I hope you have a fantastic time celebrating this awesome accomplishment during your trip, Deborah!
