Hi there, Sara, and welcome to planDisney. Thanks for stopping by with your question!
As a mom of two, I know traveling with little ones can sometimes be a bit challenging. But one of my favorite things about Walt Disney World is how it caters to families with
small children. Ever since my kids were tiny, my husband and I have loved vacationing with them in Disney World! It's more than the
hugs from Mickey, or even the magic of
those incredible fireworks. It's the sense that our kids aren't just expected - they're valued, and they're
welcome.
Sara, I know how nerve-wracking it can be to travel with our little ones. If you're anything like me (and it sounds like you are!), you're always ten steps ahead, troubleshooting issues before they even arise. In my opinion, that's
basically a mom superpower, so from here on out, I'd like to refer to you as Mrs. Incredible! So,
Mrs. Incredible, it's time to put on our capes and save the world, one butter knife at a time. Let's get to it!
First off, it's important to know that Disney World offers several types of dining, including Table-Service and
Quick-Service locations. The type of food, service, and yes,
even cutlery can depend on which type of dining you choose. While you're sure to find a
dinglehopper at any Disney World restaurant, flatwear varies by location. In my experience, most quick-service restaurants offer plastic, disposable cutlery. However, you'll find traditional flatware at most of Disney World's table-service restaurants. If you find yourself in need of something sturdier than whatever is on the table, be sure to ask a Disney Cast Member for assistance during your meal. Of course, I can't make any guarantees, but in my experience, Cast Members are always happy to help when they can!
Sara, I distinctly remember a time when I contemplated packing food scissors for the parks. But since Disney World's
Property Rules explicitly prohibit knives, I thought it best to leave the scissors at home, too. Instead, I used the
My Disney Experience app to check restaurant menus in advance. This allowed me to choose restaurants that served options my kiddos would like,
and that were soft enough to cut with a butter knife. Usually, that meant lots of yogurt, eggs, fruits, macaroni and cheese, and chicken nuggets!
Before I let you go, there are a few more things I want to mention about Disney World with small kids. First and foremost are the
Baby Care Centers! These air-conditioned oases are located in all four parks and have
everything you need for your little ones, including baby food, sunscreen, and over-the-counter medication. Secondly, I see you're visiting in August, which falls right in the middle of
Cool KIDS' SUMMER - so be sure to take advantage of all that extra pixie dust!
I hope this is helpful, Mrs. Incredible, and that your trip to Disney World is downright magical! If you have any other planning questions, you know
where to find me right here at planDisney.
Dream big,
Allison
