    If my thirteen-year-old son feels he is too old to carry around an autograph book at Walt Disney World for character photographs and signatures, can you suggest an alternative way we could help him assemble a keepsake of his next Disney trip?

    Hi, Jill!  Oh how I remember the day my oldest daughter told me she was "too big" for the characters are Walt Disney World.  I was well prepared when my 12 year old decided the same thing!  

    My favorite souvenirs are becoming ones that they come up with themselves.  The first thing we did was pin collecting.  Instead of photos and autographs, we would look for the pin that commemorated things like the first time one of the girls was tall enough for an attraction, or a pin that reflected the occasion we were visiting Walt Disney World for.  Then the kids started collecting Vinylmation.  These coffee cup sized collectibles can be found in themes that range from Walt Disney World attractions and characters to the buildings themselves.

    How about photos of him wearing hats?  I have a friend who has her son pose with pictures of the strangest hats they can find. He's had Captain Jack Sparrow's pirate hat on his head, and he's worn a Goofy hat with ears that came down to his shoulders.  It's a great collection!

    Do you sew or know someone who does?  I do not, but one of my favorite souvenirs belongs to a friend of mine who is a quilter.  Her son collected t-shirts while on vacation, and had some really awesome ones, commemorating his favorite rides and characters.  As he outgrew them, she put them away, and when he went away to college, he went with a Mom made quilt of all of his favorite t-shirts from the great experiences they shared.
