Hi Kimberly!
Thank you for bringing your question to the Disney Parks Moms Panel. Congratulations to your son for registering for the
Walt Disney World Half Marathon! How awesome that you'll be there chEARing him on along the way.
I would recommend when you go with your son to pick up his bib at the runDisney Health & Fitness Expo that you sign up for runner tracking. This will send you emails or text messages as the race goes on so you know where he is and what pace he is running. This is a great way for you to keep up with where he is along the course! It will also provide you an expected finish time, based on his pace, so you'll know when to look for him at the finish line!
After your son starts the race I would recommend heading over to Magic Kingdom. This area will be open to spectators to view their runner near Cinderella Castle, just after the 5 mile mark. This area opens at 5:30 AM and spectators do not need a ticket to enter. This will be a great way for you to see him mid-race and give him a boost of encouragement as he approaches the half way point. After he passes you at this point I'd head over to Epcot. The actual finish line of the race is in the parking lot , so you will not need a ticket to watch him finish the race! Traditionally it's the last 0.3 of the race that extends out into the parking lot, but the half mile before this is inside the park. If you'd like to view him at this point inside of Epcot a ticket is needed.
Another thing to consider is potentially purchasing a
ChEAR Squad Package. This will give you reserved seating at both the Magic Kingdom and Epcot points of the race, plus some awesome Disney swag! This usually goes on sale a couple months before the race. Please come back for any other questions!
