Can someone please tell me the average price of counter service? What's included? We will need to buy one meal per day while there, and I am trying to see if it is worth the price difference to upgrade our meal plan.

The price of even a counter service meal will vary considerably depending on what you order. Rather than giving you broad ballpark estimates, I'm going to send you to some other sites that will help you plan more accurately.

The menus of the various Disney restaurants are readily available online. My suggestion is that you visit the independent website Click on the Walt Disney World button at the top and scroll down to "dining." From there, you'll see links to all the menus. You can see exactly would be most appealing to your family - and all the pricing for those items. Another great resource is Disney Food Blog is a photo-intensive site, so you can see pictures of many of the dishes mentioned in the articles. Often that helps in the decision-making process. (Full disclosure, I have written for both these websites.)

Good luck with your planning and enjoy your stay at Walt Disney World.
