Are small locks on backpack/loungeflys allowed to the parks?

Welcome to planDisney, Sarah! I completely understand wanting a little extra peace of mind while exploring the Walt Disney World Resort, especially when carrying personal items around the parks all day. Between hopping aboard attractions, grabbing snacks around EPCOT’s World Showcase, and finding the perfect viewing spot for Happily Ever After at Magic Kingdom Park, it’s nice to know your belongings are secure so you can focus on enjoying the magic.

The good news is that small locks attached to backpacks or Loungefly bags are currently permitted at the Walt Disney World Resort. I reviewed the Walt Disney World Property Rules, and there are no specific guidelines prohibiting small luggage-style locks on bags brought into the parks. The primary bag-related requirement is simply that backpacks, purses, and similar items must not exceed 24" long x 15" wide x 18" high.

That said, it’s important to remember that all Guests and bags go through security screening before entering the parks. If your lock or bag triggers additional screening, a Security Cast Member may ask you to open the bag for inspection. Because of that, I highly recommend keeping your key, combination, or unlocking method easy to access so the process can move smoothly and you can get back to the fun quickly. In my experience, Security Cast Members are incredibly efficient and friendly. Usually, after a quick bag check or metal-detecting wand scan, you’ll be on your way toward your next adventure.

One thing I especially appreciate at Walt Disney World is how convenient it can be to carry a smaller park bag throughout the day. Whether you’re storing a portable charger before boarding TRON Lightcycle / Run at Magic Kingdom Park, tucking away sunscreen before trekking through Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, or keeping a rain jacket handy for those classic Florida afternoon showers, having a comfortable backpack or Loungefly can really make a park day easier.

Sarah, I hope this helps you feel even more prepared for your vacation. If any additional questions come up while planning your Walt Disney World adventure, please visit us again at planDisney. Enjoy your magical Walt Disney World vacation!
