    As a single mom with an 8 yr old girl and 10 yr old boy I'm concerned about riding as a threesome on some rides or allowing my son to ride alone or with a stranger. Is this going to be a logistical or safety nightmare?

    I understand your concern. Let me assure you that the number of attractions for which this will even be an issue is extremely small. Here are some examples, a few at each of the WDW parks, where your family will not face any separation issues:

    - Space Mountain: The cars hold three people in a single file row.
    - Test Track: The cars hold six people in two, three-person rows.
    - Soarin: Long rows of about 15 people.
    - Jungle Cruise: One large ship for a few dozen people.
    - Kilimanjaro Safari: One row will fit five people.
    - Kali River Rapids: Rafts fit eight people.
    - Great Movie Ride: Rows can fit five people across.
    - Primeval Whirl: Cars hold four people.

    I could go on and on about all the other rides and shows that you can experience together. But there will, as you suggested, be a few rides where you will need to split up.Let's use Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin as an example. This is a continuously loading attraction with vehicles that hold two people each. You will say to the cast member loading the ride that you are party of three. He or she will put two people in one vehicle and one in another. These two vehicles will be right next to each other, loading and unloading within seconds. There is no opportunity for anyone to get lost. Also, almost never will they put a stranger as a second person in your one-person vehicle. They will certainly honor a request to ride in a vehicle alone if you ask them. So, you need not worry about someone in your group feeling uncomfortable with a stranger.

    In my family of five, we often end up splitting up our family into a configuration where, like you, one adult is with two kids. Most of the time, we have the two kids ride together and have the parent be the one to ride alone. As I said, you would never be more than a few seconds ahead or behind them, and you would always be within earshot. This is the set up that seems to make my children happiest.
