Hello Suzanne!
Welcome to planDisney!
Disney’s Vero Beach Resort is the perfect place for a relaxing winter getaway. Many people don’t even realize there is a Disney resort on Florida’s Atlantic Treasure Coast! At Disney’s Vero Beach Resort you’ll find the same fantastic Disney service and comforts Guests are used to at Walt Disney World, but with the laid back atmosphere of a small town beach vacation. While you are there, I highly recommend asking if any of the activities that focus on
sea turtle conservation are available when you arrive. We were able to go to the beach one morning with the conservation team and my boys had the opportunity to investigate and mark turtle nests. We also saw baby leatherback turtles released into the ocean!
While Disney does not operate a shuttle between Orlando International Airport and the resort, some small private companies offer this service. I have not utilized any of these services, so I can’t give you a personal recommendation. I am seeing however, that due to Covid-19 precautions, several of these companies are either decreasing the number of shuttles available or pausing their services altogether. Some of these shuttles also drop you in Vero Beach itself, and not specifically at Disney’s Vero Beach Resort. You would then need to take a taxi to the resort itself.
If you are a solo traveler, or under 25 years old and cannot rent a car, the shuttle is probably the most economical mode of transportation, but not convenient. These shuttles usually pick up near the airport, but not the airport itself. The most popular shuttle service picks you up at a gas station near the airport. I have to be honest, trying to get my family and our bags to a nearby gas station does not sound like fun.
If your party consists of two people, doing a one-day rental car for each segment of your trip will cost approximately the same as the shuttle. Rent a car at Orlando International to get to Vero Beach. Drop your belongings at the resort, then return the car the next day to Vero Beach Municipal Airport. You’d then need a taxi from the airport back to the resort. On your way home, you’d do the same in reverse and pick up the car at the Vero Beach Airport and return it to Orlando International.
If there are three or more people in your party, a rental car for the week is going to cost similar to the shuttle cost for three people, and I think you should consider it.
Self-parking is complimentary at the resort so there wouldn’t be a parking fee to worry about. A rental car would also allow you to visit locations outside the resort itself.
I hope one of these ideas works for you, Suzanne. If you have any additional questions about your upcoming visit to Disney’s Vero Beach Resort, please let us know. We are here to help!
