What is the shelf life for a MagicBand+ that has never been used and is sealed in the box? When does the two year battery life timer start?

    Hiya Joseph!

Welcome to planDisney and thanks for coming by with your question. I especially love the tech questions because I'm a tech geek and have been using my MagicBand+ ever since the Disneyland Resort began supporting them in 2022! They come in so many cool designs that I now have multiple Bands from which to choose for my trips.

To research your question, I happened to have a new-in-box MagicBand+ from my last visit. I opened it but there was no documentation in the box regarding a two year battery life. The MagicBand+ comes with a rechargeable battery and the only downside to leaving it sealed in the box for too long is that you'll have to immediately charge the battery with the included charger cable.

What I suspect you might be referring to are the older MagicBand types which are not currently supported at the Disneyland Resort. MagicBand 2 was announced for the Walt Disney World Resort in 2016 and those Bands had a non-replaceable battery with an estimated lifespan of about two years. With the introduction of MagicBand+ and a rechargeable battery, this is no longer an issue!

Joseph, I hope that answered your question. So go ahead and open that MagicBand+ (or are you keeping it as a gift for someone?) or shop for a new one on disneystore.com! If you think of anything else, feel free to write back to us again! I'm always here for the tech gadgets and questions. We'll see ya real soon!

Wishing You a Great, Big, Beautiful Tomorrow!

Meet the Panelist: Al, California

Ahoy there from the heart of Steinbeck Country in central California! I've been visiting the Disneyland Resort since childhood and fell in love with the sense of absolute immersion that the Imagineers have achieved. My favorite attraction is Pirates of the Caribbean because where else can you go from a California day to an evening boat ride in the bayou with "salty old pirates"? I'm a veterinarian and an all-around Disney geek and enthusiast. I'd love to help you plan your next Disneyland trip! Learn More About Al
