Setting sail from Galveston to western Caribbean on Dec 1, 2017. We're a family of 4 from Canada and this will be our first cruise ever. How does each port work, is there customs right there? Do officials check passports before getting on a tender?

Welcome aboard, Karen! Hooray for your Very Merrytime Cruise with Disney this December! What a great way to kick off the Christmas season. My family and I love sailing with Disney anytime, but some of our favorite trips have been the Very Merrytime sailings because there is so much extra magic onboard!

You've got some beautiful ports to explore on your itinerary, so I hope you've looked at the amazing Port Adventures Disney offers in each of those ports of call. While guests are free to disembark the ship to explore the ports on their own, I highly recommend at least one Port Adventure so you can really dive into the history and culture and exciting experiences that are available in those ports!

Since you'll show your passports as you board the ship in Galveston, you will not be stamping passports in each port of call. It really simplifies things. To disembark and reboard the ship in each port, you'll each need to have your Key To The World Card, which you'll each receive upon check-in at Galveston. These are your identifications onboard as well as stateroom keys and charge cards on the ship. As you disembark and reboard the ship, this card will be scanned. You'll also need a photo I.D. for all adults, so you may use your passport or driver's license. It's super easy as you leave the ship. Coming back into the port area, security there will check your Key To The World Card and photo I.D. to let you into the secure port area. Then, to board the ship, your Key To The World Card will be scanned. You'll have a photo attached to your Key To The World Card so the ship knows it's really you.

Have so much fun as you explore the Western Caribbean with Disney, Karen!
