Hi Gavin,
I am so glad to hear that your working dog will accompany you to Disney World. It makes navigating the parks much easier and Disney will do everything they can to make the process as seamless as possible.
I recommend reviewing the in-depth guide on Services for Guests with Service Animals before your trip. I find it helpful to have a plan ahead of time with a good idea of where the pet relief areas are so you know how you will navigate the theme parks and ensure that your dog is also taken care of. All of the attraction queues are accessible for service dogs which makes it super easy to keep your dog with you at all times. If you need additional space for your dog, Disney recommends communicating that to those around you when in line. Most rides will allow your dog to ride along with you on the floorboard of the ride vehicle or your lap if they are small.
There are a few rides at each theme park where service animals are not permitted for their safety. At Magic Kingdom, these include The Barnstormer, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Peter Pan’s Flight, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Space Mountain, and TRON Lightcycle / Run. When traveling around the world at EPCOT your pet will need to sit out during Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Mission: SPACE, Test Track, and Soarin’ Around the World. On your adventure to Animal Kingdom your working friend will need to take a break during your visit to the Affection Section at Rafiki’s Planet Watch, Avatar Flight of Passage, Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain, DINOSAUR, Kali River Rapids, and Maharajah Jungle Trek: Aviary Area. Finally, when you visit Hollywood Studios your service dog will need to sit out during Alien Swirling Saucers, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, Slinky Dog Dash, Star Tours – The Adventure Continues, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, and Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™.
At each of these rides, you can utilize either Rider Switch and have one of your group members wait with the service dog while you ride or you will be able to utilize the portable kennels available for your dog and have the whole party ride at once. It is best to ask the cast member at the entrance to each ride what options are currently available and what they recommend since the availability of portal kennels may change throughout the day.
Happy Planning,
Jenna
