It seems a lot cheaper to buy a 5 day base ticket than a 3 day hopper. If I only plan to be at the park 3 days can I use 2 tickets in one day....say one at Animal Kingdom & one for Epcot?

That's a very nice idea, but no, it doesn't work that way.  I can say this from experience as my husband tried to do the very same thing one time.  The very nice Cast Member at Guest Services told him that they have this happen very frequently.  They did however allow him to pay the difference and upgrade his ticket to a hopper so that we could continue our touring.  Lesson learned - if you want to park hop, you have to buy the park hoppers - no way around that.
