Hi, this is my second trip to WDW. Now my son is 5 years old and is hopping to ride in some attractions that he couldn't during his last time visit. But I'm concerned about Star wars and Malestrom. Do they have big drops? one? many?

There are no actual drops during Star Tours. This is a motion simulator type ride. You do bump around a bit and have the illusion of drops, but you are not really falling anywhere. If your son is a fan of the Star Wars movies, then he will probably be OK on this ride.

There is a real drop in the Maelstrom, but it is not particularly large. The drop is slightly larger than Pirates of the Caribbean, but nowhere near as big as Splash Mountain. If your son is fine on Pirates and Goofy's Barnstormer, then the drop in the Maelstrom will be unlikely to cause problems. In my family, we're find with the drops, but find the large polar bears and trolls to be the challenging part of the Maelstrom.

    Funny story ...

I LOVE the Maelstrom, but was not able to go on it for a while because my kids were not tall enough. When my twins were five, we decided to take the family on the ride all together. One of the girls was nervous, but I assured her that there was nothing to worry about. Needless to say, I had forgotten about the trolls. My daughter was TERRIFIED of the trolls. The nightmares went on for weeks. And then finally went away.

Fast forward a few years. I tell the girls that we need to get some new shoes at Nordstroms (a very nice department store). Usually my daughter loves to shop and likes nothing more than new patent leather, but in this case she freaked.

"No, no, Mommy. Don't take me there. I can't go there. I REFUSE."

I could not for the life of me figure out what the problem was. The she said, "I have nightmares about the troll." She had mistaken Nordstroms for the Maelstrom.

It's a big family joke now, but I warn you, when you go to buy shoes, beware of the trolls :-)
