Hi Lauren,
The transportation available at Disney World is one of the things that takes a Disney vacation to the next level for me. I love being able to arrive at my Disney Resort hotel and not have to worry about how I will get around for the duration of my vacation. It feels like magic!
Most of the
Water Transportation at Disney World can accommodate ECVs or scooters. However, the water taxis that run between Magic Kingdom Park and Magic Kingdom Area Resorts (Gold Flag) are not optimized for navigating with a scooter. These boats are smaller and are not equipped to handle scooters, ECVs, or wheelchairs. Luckily, Disney World provides a fully accessible option with
Monorail Transportation to navigate between Magic Kingdom and Disney's Polynesian Resort, Contemporary Resort, and Grand Floridian Resort and Spa.
I have found that the Monorail Transportation and
Bus Service at Walt Disney World are the easiest options to navigate when traveling with a scooter or wheelchair. Both of these options offer easy-to-use ramps directly onto the transportation and all of their vehicles are equipped to handle mobility devices. Water Transportation can be hit or miss. Some boats are equipped to handle mobility devices but I find that frequently you will have to wait for the next larger boat to come in. This is not always convenient and makes travel between locations take significantly longer.
Since you will be traveling with a mobility device, I recommend checking out
Disney World's Services for Guests with Mobility Needs. There is a ton on useful information that will help prepare you for what rides and attractions will require transfers and where companion restrooms are located throughout the theme parks.
Happy Planning,
Jenna
