Are there any Scavenger Hunts going on now in Walt Disney World?

    Hi Janice,

There are occasionally official scavenger hunts at WDW, but this is rare. The few times I've seen it, the hunts were part of a large event honoring a Disney anniversary. To the best of my knowledge, there is nothing like that going on at Disney World during the next several months.

But just because there isn't an official hunt going on, that doesn't mean you can't enjoy one. There is a company, Gift of a Lifetime (giftsofalifetime.com) that specializes in creating custom events at the Orlando theme parks. I've never used them, but I've heard stories about fun they've created, including scavenger hunts.

For an even more personalized event, you can create your own hunt. I did this for my family during our August 2014 visit to WDW. I made a list of 50 items to find or tasks to complete. I gave them 3 hours to complete as many items as they could. Some examples were:

    - Take a photo of a guest hula-hooping in the park.
    - Bring me a pressed penny with a Toy Story character on it.
    - Ride Buzz Lightyear. The family member with the highest score gets credit for his team.
    - Take a photo of a posted sign in the Magic Kingdom with the word "diarrhea" on it. (Pro tip: There are several.)
    - Take a photo of a barrel of hippo repellant.
    - Buy a cupcake. Have one team member eat the entire thing in fewer than five bites.
    - Make a list of the brand names of all the refrigerators in the Carousel of Progress.

You get the idea. My hunt was silly and aimed at my teenagers, but you could be as complicated or simple as you want based on your family's needs.

Please let us know if you create your own scavenger hunt. I'd love to hear about it.
