I am sailing on the Wish in March. One of my sailing party has a peanut allergy. Is the pool deck soft serve ice cream safe for that allergy? And importantly—the stateroom chocolates?

Ahoy there, Shanna. Welcome back to planDisney. We’re so glad you’ve stopped by with more questions for us.

My family and I love the soft serve ice cream on the Disney cruise ships. Besides vanilla and chocolate, there are usually other flavors as well; my husband makes it a point to check daily throughout various times of the day. We’ve seen strawberry, mango, banana, pineapple, and mint flavors offered!

Disney Cruise Line takes food allergies very seriously and Cast Members do their best to ensure Guests’ health and safety. However, cross contamination can occur during manufacturing and food preparation. The soft serve ice cream generally does not contain peanuts but since flavors can change, there is no guarantee. This also applies to the chocolates that are placed on your bed during nightly turn-down service. On our most recent Disney sailings, the chocolates were Dove milk chocolate minibars. While they don’t contain peanuts, there could potentially be cross-contamination during the manufacturing process.

My son has a peanut allergy as well, and we have not encountered any issues such as allergic reactions or anaphylaxis during any of our Disney vacations (*knock on wood*). We make sure to note his peanut allergy on our reservation’s Special Services section prior to sailing. Additionally, having the same servers rotate with us to different dining rooms every night makes a big difference. You can also reach out directly to Disney Cruise Line prior to your sailing if you wish to discuss any dietary restrictions your party may have; Disney Cruise Line may be able to accommodate with food substitutions. We also travel with my son’s Epi-Pen (in its original box containing his prescription) just in case.

If you happen to need any non-emergency medical care during your sailing, the Health Center is located on Deck 1 Forward on every Disney Cruise Line ship. Additionally, a doctor and a nurse are on-call 24 hours, 7 days a week for medical emergency.

I wish you all a magical sailing! If you have more questions, please don’t hesitate to visit us on planDisney again.

    Bon voyage,
    Kiki

Meet the Panelist: Kiki, California

Greetings! I have been fascinated by the magic of Disney since I was a little girl; now that I am a mother of two, I love watching my children experience Disney Parks through their own eyes. I am also surrounded by fellow Disney-loving nurse friends whom I enjoy quick adults-only Disneyland Resort escapes or Disney Cruise Line voyages with. Whether you are planning your once-in-a-lifetime family trip or a short adults-only getaway to the Happiest Place on Earth, I am here to help!
