We are sailing on the Fantasy in 8 days! We will have our nearly 2 year old son with us. Are medical facilities available on board in case of illness? My son has had a share of ear infections and am concerned about what will happen should he get one..

Welcome aboard, Jennifer! Only a week left until your family gets to set sail on the high seas with Captain Mickey and his crew!

I'm really glad you asked about the medical center onboard the ships, as it's important to know about in the event of any illness. My family learned all about the onboard medical center the hard way, when my son came down with an ear infection during our cruise this past fall. However, I'm happy to tell you that the whole process couldn't have been easier and the staff in the medical center were so wonderful with him!

He had been acting pretty cranky all day, but still put his Peter Pan costume on to head to dinner. He gets ear infections pretty often, much like your son, so I immediately knew what was up when he announced that his ear was hurting - that explained the crankiness. We left dinner immediately to head down to the medical center. We simply signed in when we got there, filled out a brief medical information form, and were shown to an exam room. My son, though not feeling well, still smiled when he saw Mickey and Minnie dressed up like a doctor and a nurse in a painting on the wall. A little Disney magic, even in the doctor's office! The doctor arrived, checked out my sick little Peter Pan and confirmed that he had not a single, but a double ear infection, and prescribed medicine, which she was able to give us right away.

Unfortunately, they don't take insurance, however they were able to provide me with all of the paperwork to show what had been done, what was diagnosed and what was prescribed. The charge simply went on my stateroom account. I then submitted all the paperwork to our insurance company for reimbursement when we got home.

I hope those details put you at ease as you prepare to set sail, Jennifer! Have a wonderful cruise! And here's to hoping your family doesn't need to visit the medical center!
