Welcome aboard, Kim!
You'll find it a little slow, but you will have a choice of Internet packages available when you use
Connect@Sea onboard. You'll just need to choose which package you'd like, and you can charge the amount to your stateroom account.
On embarkation day, there's a promo of 50mb free if you sign up as an internet user before midnight. If you have a smart phone, it is convenient -- you can actually just choose the DCL-Guest WiFi connection, open your browser, and then complete the registration process. Data gets depleted quickly - so you'll need to log in/out of your account frequently to conserve those megabytes. It will be wise to turn off your notification and other data-hungry apps. When I sailed last month, I found that each picture that I posted on my FaceBook account ate up about 5-7mb per upload. I ended up taking lots of pictures on my smartphone and made a collage of my favorite pictures of the day -- then I would sign in, upload 1 picture (1 collage), then immediately sign off once the picture upload is completed. Amazingly, I was able to update my family back home about our daily activities on our 7-night voyage without having to purchase an Internet plan.
Besides not having cell signal all the time, cell phone roaming and international usage charges will apply once you set sail and while you are out at your ports of call in the Bahamas. Don't forget to download the
Personal Navigator App before you embark. Once you get on the ship, just reset and the app will populate with all the most current information. My kids and I enjoyed the instant messaging feature too.
I hope this help, Kim!
Happy planning, Dolly
