Hi! We are sailing on the Disney Dream in April. My child is terrified of automatic toilet sensors. In the kids club, do they have automatic toilet sensors? If they don't, do the staff have post-it notes to put on the sensors? Thank you!

    Ahoy there, Caroline!

Thanks so much for cruising by planDisney with such a thoughtful question. I completely understand your concern...those loud flushing sounds can definitely be overwhelming for some kids, especially in a new environment. It’s wonderful that you’re planning ahead to help your child feel more comfortable.

The Oceaneer Club on the Disney Dream is such a fun and imaginative space for kids! When my boys were little, they loved exploring Andy’s Room from Toy Story, with a giant bed and oversized toys, and pretending to fly the Millennium Falcon in the Star Wars area. There’s also a sweet Pixie Hollow section that feels like stepping into a fairy garden. The theming really helps kids feel like they’ve entered a world made just for them.

While I can’t say for certain whether the Oceaneer Club restrooms on the Dream have automatic toilet sensors, my friend Christina (who recently sailed on another Disney ship) shared a photo of the kids’ bathroom, and it had a manual flush button on the back just like the ones in the staterooms. I also saw the same setup in a video of the Disney Treasure. So there’s a good chance the Dream is similar.

Since the flushing sound is the main worry, you might also try showing your child how to close the lid before pushing the button and cover their ears, maybe leaning their head to one side and using a finger on the other ear. Having a little routine like that can help them feel more in control.

I also recommend stopping by the Oceaneer Club during the Open House on embarkation day. You can explore the space with your child, meet the wonderful Youth Counselors, and check out the restrooms together. It’s a great time to share any specific concerns, and they’re always happy to help make kids feel safe and at ease. If needed, you can also inquire about the use of the Post-it notes while you're there (maybe stick a pad in your purse before leaving).

One last fun note...the handwashing stations in the club are a hit! The kids get a squirt of soap and stick their hands into a space-age style machine that does all the scrubbing for them. It’s fun, efficient, and a great way to keep those hands clean while they play.

Wishing you and your little one a truly magical voyage aboard the Disney Dream, Caroline!

    “Sea” ya real soon,
