We're sailing our 9th cruise with Disney but first from Venice this July. Do we claim our baggage? How are transfers from Marco Polo airport handled? Are transfers by water taxi then van/bus? I need to pre-plan for my autistic son to acclimate him. Thanks

    Welcome back, Jacqueline!

You're in for such a magical cruise in Europe! Disney's transfers from Marco Polo can be by motorcoach, mini bus or taxi, depending on the guests' arrival time and party size as well as how many other Disney Cruise Line guests with Disney transfers are arriving around the same time. I know that doesn't give you specifics, and I understand your wanting to be able to prepare your son well in advance so he can feel comfortable with what to expect.

I chatted a bit more with Disney Cruise Line about this, and the agent suggested that you might call them at 800-951-3532 to add a note in the comments area of your reservation letting them know you'd like to call back a week or two before you set sail to be put in touch with Shoreside services and explain why. They'll have that note and you won't have to re-explain your situation when you call back in the spring or early summer before sailing. Then, do call and get in touch with Shoreside services at that point. Hopefully they'll be able to put you in touch with the transportation team in Venice to try to find out exactly which type of transportation (motorcoach, mini bus or taxi) will be waiting for your family and any other guests arriving at your arrival time.

Sailing Venice's water ways are a fun way to travel from the airport to Venice's main island, and that is what I enjoyed last summer when I was heading to our hotel from the airport. However, there is land that connects the island that the airport is on to the island where you'll board the Magic, so it seems that only ground transfers will be part of your trip. I hope that information points you in the right direction, Jacqueline. Keep an eye on the Disney Parks Blog, as I hosted a few videos about Venice with Disney Cruise Line. I hope that letting your son watch these will further prepare him for what to expect (and you too, of course!)

    Happy planning!
