Welcome aboard, Amy!
I'm glad you're asking about resorts in San Juan for the night before your cruise, because Disney
partners with two different resorts to offer guests a seamless transition from land to sea. Both the Caribe Hilton San Juan and the Marriot San Juan Resort partner with Disney Cruise Line, so I'd suggest you choose one of those for the night prior to embarkation. In addition, you can add a hotel transfer option to your package that would then include transfers from the airport to your resort and from the resort to the port. Even though they carry an extra cost, my family and I use the Disney transfers no matter which port we sail from, as it's so easy to let Disney take care of the details, so all we have to do is show up and enjoy! I promise that it is worth every penny to let them do the driving and planning, Amy! We always receive a notice in our resort room when we check in or sometime the night prior to sailing that lets us know what time to meet for our transfer to the port the next morning, and what time checked luggage will be picked up, as they'll send it ahead for you - another perk!
Give the agents at Disney Cruise Line a call at (800) 951-3532 to add the resort stay and ground transfers to your reservation, or to get more details for your specific sailing. Hopefully, you'll arrive early enough in the day so you can check into your hotel and then head into Old San Juan to do a bit of exploring. It's such a beautiful area! I felt like I took a step back in time when I visited
Old San Juan. There's so much to see and experience!
As for Port Adventures, I recommend choosing one in each port that includes the history or culture of that particular island, as they're each so unique!
Have a great cruise!
